[NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COMMUNITY MESSAGING - Northamptonshire West - 26.01.10 - WB/CMS/2215/09 - WN12 - Good News]

This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all residents in the central area of Northampton Town.

A local town centre fundraiser had her stolen keyboard replaced thanks to the hard work of PC Andy Ayres from Northampton Central SCT.

A woman who is known to regularly busk in Abington Street to raise money for the charity, Cats Protection, had her keyboard stolen recently leaving her unable to fundraise.

The officer saw it as his mission to help and made some visits to second hand shops in the area. After visiting Cash Converters on Abington Street, they kindly agreed to donate an electronic keyboard to the lady.

PC Ayres has continually been trying to improve the relationship between the Force and second hand shops in town centre for while.

He said: "The Town Centre SCT has forged these close relationships over many years and it is important to maintain them, through this we can gather intelligence that allows us to effectively direct our resources against crime and anti-social behavior. One of the most difficult areas of intelligence gathering is that involving the handling of stolen goods. It is a vital part of the prevention and detection of crime to establish where this happens."

He added: "Many people turn a blind eye to a bargain but they should ask themselves where their bargain came from! We liaise very closely with used goods shops and pawnbrokers such as Cash Generator in the town centre to gather this intelligence."

Thank you
