This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators in Northamptonshire.
                                                           
Latest figures released by Northamptonshire's Crimestoppers show that in the year of 2008/2009 almost 500 actionable calls were made to the charity.

As a result, more than £8,000 worth of stolen property was recovered and 48 arrests or charges were made.

Officers are pleased with the response they have had due to information received through Crimestoppers

Chief Inspector Mick Stamper, Director of Intelligence said: " We have a great relationship with Crimestoppers and the figures demonstrate that. Although independent from the police, they are a crucial partner in our fight against crime."

Crimestoppers is an independent charity that takes in information on an anonymous basis from those unwilling to speak to police officers and staff directly.

Information can be left on an anonymous basis by ringing the Crimestoppers freefone number 0800 555111 - Crimestoppers will then pass that information on to the police.

Isabel Cross, Eastern Development Manager for Crimestoppers said: "Crimestoppers has the power to undermine criminality because the criminal has no idea who has given the information.

"Because of its central commitment to anonymity, Crimestoppers enable individuals to make that call, to act against the disturbance, nuisance, or more serious activity, helping the police and the community, and improving quality of life for all.

"She added: Although we don't know who the callers are, they clearly make a difference. So we'd like to extend a very big and important 'thank You!' to everyone who has called us and encourage people to continue calling."

Drugs In Our Community

As you know, drugs are NEVER something we should turn our backs on. Drugs can be addictive, even cannabis and many people commit crime in order to get the cash to pay for drugs. There is also the side issue of dirty needles being left lying around the Semilong Community, as what happened recently when some were found outside Castle School.

For that reason, if you know anything about drugs in our community, please let the police know, let us know, or tell Crimestoppers.

This is an issue which must be tackled.
