[NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COMMUNITY MESSAGING - Northamptonshire West - 04.12.09 - WB/CMS/1530/09 - ALL NHW - POLICE AUTHO]

The Police Authority, together with the police and the help of local celebrities have launched a new You Tube video, encouraging the public to share their views on boosting public confidence in policing.

The video starts with the chair of the Police Authority, Deirdre Newham speaking about the role of the Police Authority, and asking what would make you more confident with the service the police provide.

It also shows clips from actor Tony O'Callaghan - who played Sergeant Matt Boyden on ITVs 'The Bill' and is currently performing at The Deco Theatre - speaking of how, more uniformed presence would make him feel more secure. As well as clips from Ian Sampson, Northampton Town FC manager, talking about more police on the beat to increase confidence.

The video ends with Chief Constable Adrian Lee, asking members of the public to contribute their views.

The You Tube video is one of many tools that have been employed to reach people in the county and encourage them to give their opinions on what can be done to boost confidence.

The purpose of the video is to help capture audiences that focus more on social media than traditional media and therefore reaching more diverse communities in the county.

Speaking on the use of You Tube, Deirdre Newham, Chair of Northamptonshire Police Authority, said: "Part of the role of a Police Authority is to consult people about their policing priorities for the County. We are always seeking news ways to gain people's views and this year we are adding You Tube to the range of consultation methods we use. We are hoping that this will give us access to the views of those who may not have historically got involved in our public consultation, and as such help inform the decisions the Authority makes on behalf of those who live and work in the County.

The video can be seen by logging onto the police or Police Authority website or by going onto http://www.youtube.com/northantspolice.

Thank you
