This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all residents in the Northamptonshire West area.
Behind every bargain is a victim of crime.
It's tempting to buy cheap goods, but the real price of your bargain may be a victim of crime- an elderly lady has been burgled of her jewellery, a child has had their bike stolen, a sat nav has been snatched from a vehicle.
In many cases goods are stolen from the most vulnerable people in our society. The goods are stolen, not because they appeal to the thief directly but the thief knows they can be sold for cash.
Anyone who receives stolen goods or assists the thief in any way to dispose of the goods is actively encouraging the thief to steal. This is why the penalty for handling stolen goods is greater than that for theft.
If you are offered cheap goods, no matter how good the 'bargain' appears to be, please don't buy them. Call the Police (101) or Crimestoppers (0800 555 111) and tell us where and when you saw them.
