[NORTHAMPTONSHIRE COMMUNITY MESSAGING - Northamptonshire West - 02.11.09 - WB/CMS/1141/09 ALL NHW - CONFIDENCE]
This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all members of Neighbourhood Watch in Northampton.
Citizens of Northamptonshire - questioned through the British Crime Survey - have shown an increase in confidence in the service provided by the police. 6.1 per cent of people questioned answered with 'strongly agree' or 'tend to agree', when asked 'The police and local authorities are dealing with the anti-social behaviour and crime issues that matter in this area (year to June 2009).
This figure shows a 6.2 per cent increase from June 2008, and a 1.9 per cent increase form the previous quarter - well above the 0.2 per cent average change (for previous quarter) achieved by the most similar police force.
Improvements over the last twelve months mean that the force is on target to achieve further increases above the 50 per cent mark by 2012.
The improvements follow work undertaken by the force to educate staff on the confidence programme and what that means for those delivering the service as well as the launch of the 'Bright Idea' scheme in order to allow staff to put forward ideas on how confidence in the police can be improved.
Chief Inspector Dave Hill, Head of Citizen Focus, said: "This is the third successive increase we have achieved in public confidence, which reflects the hard work of the police and local authorities.
"It shows that we are making strides in listening to and responding to the concerns of our communities and shows more joined up working with our partners.
"We are optimistic that by continuing to put the citizen at the centre of everything we do, implementing the policing pledge and enhancing our delivery of neighbourhood policing, we can continue to gain the support and confidence of the public."
