This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all residents in the Central area of Northampton Town Centre.
Please be aware of a number of incidents that occurred in your area over the weekend.
Clare Street -between 03:30 Friday 16 October and 16:30 Saturday 17 October offenders attempted to force entry in to two properties via rear windows.
At around 11:30 a male caller stated he was from the gas board and asked to look at the resident's cooker to check for problems. The male was given access to the property and proceeded to the kitchen and checked the cooker, the male then left the address. Nothing was stolen.
In a separate incident in Colwyn Road a male was observed to place socks on his hands and enter a property through an open window. This male was detained at the scene by a a neighbour and police were called.
We would like to remind you, 'If you're not sure, DON'T open the door', you are never required to open your door. Legitimate callers will generally carry some form of identification, and be happy to show this to you.
