This is a community safety message from Northamptonshire West Police to all NHW relating to Doorstep Crime and Distraction Burglary.
Electoral Rolls
Each year between August and November, local authorities deliver electoral registration forms to all homes in the UK. There is a legal requirement to complete these forms, which list all the people living at your address on 15 October. Once the forms are completed and returned then you are eligible to vote. A new electoral register is published on 01 December.
The electoral register is a list of the names and address of everyone who is eligible to vote. It is used by credit reference agencies to verify details and prevent fraud.
There are two versions of the electoral register:- The full register is only used for elections, preventing and detecting crime and checking applications for loan or credit.
The edited register is available for general sale and can be bought by any person, company or organisation and used for commercial activities such as marketing.
Each person named on the electoral registration form can opt out of appearing on the edited version by entering a tick in the 'edited register' box.
Further information can be found on www.direct.gov.uk/en/governmentcitizensandrights web site.
